Yahsat partners with SATCOM to offer satellite services in Zimbabwe

UAE-based Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat) announced on Wednesday that it has struck a partnership with Indian satellite ground equipment firm SATCOM Technologies to explore opportunities to provide satellite services in Zimbabwe.

Under the service partner agreement, Yahsat and SATCOM aim to work closely with the Zimbabwe government to secure government projects by offering innovative, reliable, and efficient satellite-enabled connectivity solutions tailored to Zimbabwe’s national requirements and development initiatives.

The partnership aims to meet the increasing requirements of various sectors such as mining, agriculture, health, and education. Services are expected to commence in June.

Yahsat chief commercial officer Sulaiman Al Ali said the tie-up with SATCOM is the latest move in Yahsat’s ongoing expansion across the African continent, which will be expanded further with the launch of the Thuraya 4 satellite scheduled for later this year.

“This strategic partnership is a testament to our commitment to enhancing connectivity across the continent, supporting the digital transformation journey of African nations, and improving access to essential services for all,” he said in a statement.

Earlier this month, Yahsat’s data solutions arm, YahClick, signed a multi-year, multi-Gbps contract with Eutelsat to lease capacity from the Eutelsat Konnect satellite to extend YahClick’s service coverage in Africa, particularly Ethiopia.
